Drama workshops run from September to June and involve older people, members of the traveller community and long stay resident’s from St. Joseph’s, our local long-stay residential care home. The drama workshops are coordinated by John Grant, who has had a life-long involvement in drama and brings great variety, comedy and originality to the drama events. TAF works with the Navan Traveller's Training Centre to organise the drama workshops, which take place once a week in the Third Age Centre. Some residents from St. Joseph’s Hospital also take part. Through the workshops, participants explore and develop different concepts or themes for a performance and the group takes it from there! Typically, the Drama Group perform at Christmas and on at least one other occasion in the year. The Christmas 2007 play was written by one of the TAF members. The drama workshops cover a broad agenda: in addition to standard dramatic activities and a strong emphasis on comedy, these workshops have included a Movement to Music module, memory games and other dramatic approaches, all of which stimulate creativity and self-expression. The drama workshops develop the self-confidence of participants, provide an excellent social outlet and an opportunity to mix with people of different background – and above all, are great fun!
