A new session of Go for Life with Frank Fahey begins on the 3rd of November. Classes will run for 6 weeks. Call Karen at 046 - 9557750 for more details. Our past expeerience working within this area has affirmed our belief in prevention where possible, rather than cure. One extremely effective way of achieving this is to promote healthy ageing through physical activity. Participation in physical activity and sporting events can be extremely beneficial to all ages, but is especially effective when introduced to older people. It can help to maintain subtleness and flexibility, fitness levels, increase stamina, improve sleeping patterns, help alleviate stress, and improve overall health and wellbeing. We find that providing such a programme in the winter time which can be especially lonely for older people (as they may be less inclined to venture out and about) is a good way of keeping fit, active, warm, and creates a social outlet and a purpose. We have utilised the Go for Life Programme over the past number of years and have witnessed first-hand the benefits that this programme has to offer. Our members who participate in our annual activities are testament to the importance and benefits of this initiative. |
