Third Age Centre

The Resource Centre, located in the Third Age Centre, provides information on rights, entitlements, services, facilities, schemes, grants, educational and training opportunities, health, volunteering opportunities, contact details of organisations and agencies. When necessary, the Resource Centre worker explain the process of applying for an entitlement or service to users of the Centre. In addition, the Resource Centre worker provides assistance to users of the Resource Center if required, for example, help with filling in application forms, or on following up on applications made for various schemes.

Started: Established in 2001, as part of the Equality for Older Women Measure (a 3-year project at the TAF).
Funding:  No current funding
Biggest challenge:Being able to provide the sufficient support to clients applying for an entitlement and following up on applications
Currently:Continues to provide a wide range of information
What they say: "Without the help I got at the Resource Centre, I would never have managed to fill in the form for the disabled person's grant. It took six more phone calls to sort out all the details before someone came to install the new shower and rails in my house. I would have given up long ago, were it not for the support from the Resource Centre".

"I never knew that I would qaualify for a pension on my own after my husband died".

"They were very helpful, and took their time with me, sometimes its difficult when there is a lot of information".

Some comments from resource centre clients.
